46 years since the military dictatorship of the 21st April

The GS of the CC of the KKE, Dimitris Koutsoumpas, spoke at the event of the Attica Party Organization which took place on Monday 22nd April with the theme “46 years since the military dictatorship of the 21st of April”.

The event was held in the Eleftheria Park in Athens which was jam-packed with people.

The GS of the CC of the KKE stressed amongst other things in his speech:

“At today’s event of the Attica Party Organization in Eleftheria Park the former EAT-ESA [ military police] base, we honour the militants of the anti-dictatorship struggle, the communists and other militants who were murdered, tortured, imprisoned, sent to places of exile, we honour the communists of the illegal organizations of the KKE and KNE, of the other organizations of the people’s and youth movement (…)

A party capable of acting in conditions of parliamentary democracy without losing sight of the main thing, its objective, but it is also capable of acting in conditions when the developments will bring the people and the labour movement face to face with the mechanisms of state repression and violence, with the mechanisms that restrict its activity, with the strengthening of anti-communism.”

D. Koutsoumpas also noted that: “The long period of parliamentary democracy, from 1974 until today, cannot conceal the character and content of the power today, which is the dictatorship of the monopolies (…)

(…) The people must not forget that, regardless of what form this dictatorship takes, the political system, its state, remains a class state, anti-people, oriented towards the intensification of the exploitation of the working class and the oppression of the other popular strata both in the phase of capitalist development and in the phase of the capitalist economic crisis.

The confrontation between the government and SYRIZA has nothing to do with the people’s interests. They compete over who has the best formula for returning to the capitalist development that will take place on the rubble of the workers’ and people’s gains. (…) We isolate the natural and political descendants of the dictatorship, the Nazi organization Golden Dawn. Its worship of the dictatorship and Nazism confirms that it is the most extreme expression of capital, of the system and the plutocracy”.

At the end of his speech D. Koutsoumpas underlined that : “ today the struggle of the KKE seeks to rally forces around the acute problems, the way out from the crisis in favour of the people, the people’s alliance that will consist of forces whose interest is to struggle against the monopolies, against capitalism, for the regroupment of the workers’ and people’s movement, the strengthening of the KKE and KNE. (…)

We propose to the people and the youth the formation of the People’s Alliance, whose main slogans will be the socialization of the monopolies and agricultural producer cooperatives, the unilateral cancellation of the debt, the disengagement from the EU and NATO, the non-participation in military-political interventions, in wars” concluded the GS of the CC of the KKE.
